Remember that everyone is different and respond differently to these thoughts and feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Non-verbal indicators may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>social withdrawal<\/li><li>a persistent drop in mood<\/li><li>disinterest in maintaining personal hygiene or appearance<\/li><li>uncharacteristically reckless behaviour<\/li><li>poor diet changes, rapid weight changes<\/li><li>being distracted<\/li><li>anger<\/li><li>insomnia<\/li><li>alcohol or drug abuse<\/li><li>giving away sentimental or expensive possessions<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Indirect verbal expressions may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>hopelessness<\/li><li>failing to see a future<\/li><li>believing they are a burden to others<\/li><li>saying they feel worthless or alone<\/li><li>talking about their death or wanting to die.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is not an exhaustive list.&nbsp; Be guided by your instincts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reasons for suicidal feelings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The reasons that people take their own lives are often very complex. Factors influencing whether someone is likely to be suicidal include:<br><br><strong>Risk factors<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 sometimes called vulnerability factors,&nbsp; these factors increase the likelihood of suicidal behaviour.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Risk factors include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Previous suicide attempts<\/li><li>History of substance abuse<\/li><li>History of mental health conditions \u2013&nbsp;depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD<\/li><li>Relationship problems \u2013&nbsp;conflict with parents and \/ or romantic partners<\/li><li>Legal or disciplinary problems<\/li><li>Access to harmful means, such as medication or weapons<\/li><li>Recent death or suicide of a family member or a close friend<\/li><li>Ongoing exposure to bullying behaviour<\/li><li>Physical illness or disability.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Protective factors<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 these reduce the likelihood of suicidal behaviour, and work to improve a person\u2019s ability to cope with difficult circumstances.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are having thoughts about suicide there could also be some behavioural and\/or physical changes that could tell you something isn\u2019t right. &nbsp;It might be subtle, but it\u2019s likely that you notice a number of signs rather&nbsp;than just one or two.
