This gathering was aimed at developing a coordinated response and establishing a clear plan of action to support the victims.

During the meeting, a senior official from the Department of Social Development recognised the immediate necessity for specialised services and committed to providing support for the facility. The official pledged to equip the property adequately and ensure that funding would be expedited to meet the pressing requirements. Ms. Naidoo was entrusted with the responsibility of locating a suitable property and preparing the centre for operation within a two-week period, highlighting the collaborative effort to deliver timely and effective assistance for survivors.

Securing and Equipping the Facility

In response to the urgent need for a haven for survivors, Ms. Naidoo took decisive action and managed to locate and secure a suitable property within just two weeks. Remarkably, she accomplished this feat using her own financial resources, as no initial support was provided by the state. Once the property was secured, Ms. Naidoo ensured that all necessary health and safety standards were strictly adhered to, and the facility successfully passed the required inspections. To ensure that residents would receive thorough and compassionate care, she assembled a dedicated team comprising eight staff members. Thanks to her determined efforts, the Hope to Heal Centre was officially established in February 2021, providing a critical lifeline for victims and survivors of human trafficking.

Facilities and Amenities

The Hope to Heal Wellness Centre was thoughtfully designed to provide a holistic environment where survivors could focus on healing and recovery. A library was available, creating opportunities for personal growth and relaxation through reading. Dedicated areas allowed residents to gather and play board games, fostering social interaction and a sense of community. The centre also featured a swimming pool, which provided both physical exercise and a calming atmosphere. In addition, a vegetable garden was cultivated, empowering survivors to participate in nurturing activities and learn new skills. Spaces for yoga were set aside, supporting mindfulness and mental health, while art activity facilities encouraged creative expression and served as therapeutic outlets for residents.

The counselling rooms at the centre were intentionally designed to create a comfortable and supportive environment.
